Tilted Donut No. 4 is a massive piece, 12 feet in diameter and 20 feet high. The sculpture seems to defy gravity, as welded shapes are perched precariously atop each other. As the viewer circles the piece, the sculpture appears to change so much that it is almost an entirely different work from each position. Before arriving in West Bend, it was a centerpiece for an international sculpture show at Navy Pier in Chicago. Benton received his BFA from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1956. He is the recipient of the 2008 International Sculpture Center Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture. The sculpture is located at the north end of Veteran’s Avenue along the Milwaukee River.
