Paradisedae, by Narendra Patel, professor emeritus of sculpture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, soars upward like a large prehistoric bird lifting itself to flight. One of Patel’s favorite materials is brightly painted steel plate, and this is one of his largest of that type, rising 17 feet. As viewers circle this work, it offers varying colors and perceptions from different angles. Patel’s sculptures are spread across Wisconsin, as are those of his many students. Serigraph Inc. donated this piece in commemoration of its 50th anniversary in 1999. The sculpture is located in Riverside Park.
