Washington County Freedom Monument

16. “Washington County Freedom Monument,” designed by Wally Miller of Miller Monument Co., is dedicated to veterans who lost their lives in wars and conicts after 1975. The American Legion Post #36 organized the erection, with donations coming from students and community fund raisers. Like “Doughboy,” it includes a time capsule with the names of contributing students. The monument (located at the old Courthouse) is “The Soldier’s Cross,” consisting of a rie, bayonet implanted in the soil, empty boots and “dog tags.” Google Map (new window)
